Early maritime interest is key for pursuing economic growth

South African port operator Transnet Port Terminals (TPT) recognises the need to generate awareness of the maritime field in a country driven by sea-borne trade and home to some of the busiest and most well equipped ports in Africa. So said Velile Dube, Terminal Executive Manager for the Ports of Cape Town and Saldanha operated by Transnet Port Terminals’ (TPT). Dube was speaking at the recent handover of two state-of-the-art, renovated science labs and Smart Board ™ teaching aids totalling R285,000 to Langa High School in Langa Township, Cape Town.

Cape Town terminal welcomes end of windy season

The end of March should see a subsiding of the vicious south-easterly wind that has plagued the Cape and put Cape Town container terminal under serious pressure to keep cargo moving over the last few months. Just the first three months of 2011 have already seen 62 separate wind stoppages totalling 551 hours at the terminal – more than half of 2010’s full total of 964 hours lost to wind over 83 separate occasions.
