MSC buys ship for Angola service
May 10, 2005
The 1996-built container vessel Atlantic Trader (16 165-gt) has been purchased by Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) for its new South Africa – Angola service.
Announcing this on Monday (9 May) MSC in South Africa said the ship, which has a capacity of 600TEU would be renamed MSC Sheila and will operate a fortnightly rotation Cape Town – Walvis Bay – Luanda – Lobito – Cape Town.
Cargo ex Johannesburg will be railed direct to Cape Town and cargo ex Durban and Port Elizabeth transshipped on existing MSC services.
The first departure ex Cape Town takes place on 15 June and MSC expects the service to go weekly from November, which suggests that a second ship will then be introduced.
