Safmarine has announced details of its revised schedule for the new joint SAFARI service between South Africa and the Far East, operated in partnership with Maersk Sealand.

The new scheduling becomes possible following the transfer of the former ‘Big White’ container ships from the SAECS (SA-Europe) service, SA Sederberg, SA Winterberg, SA Helderberg and Maersk Constantia. The move will provide greater box capacity on the weekly Far East service as well as an increased capacity for reefer boxes.

The revised service commences on 30 March 2005 with the sailing of SA Sederberg from Shanghai on a port rotation of Shanghai – Yantian - Hong Kong – Tanjung Pelepas - Port Louis - Port Elizabeth – Durban - Port Louis – Tanjung Pelepas – Kaohsiung - Shanghai. SA Sederberg will also be the first eastbound vessel on the new rotation, departing Port Elizabeth on 22 April 2005.

From 1 April Mediterranean Shipping Company will withdraw from the Safari service and go it alone with its own direct Far East – SA service
