Pongola safely alongside at Beira
Jul 15, 2004
The Ocean Africa Container Lines (OACL) ship Pongola, which went aground on entering the port of Beira on 5 July, effectively blocking the channel and closing the port to all ships, has been successfully refloated and is currently alongside a berth in the harbour discharging her cargo of containers.
Once this has been completed an assessment of the damage to the ship will be undertaken before a decision made as to returning her to Durban either under her own power or under tow.
OACL said today that another ship, UAFL Express had been chartered in on a 30-day charter to maintain the company schedule between Durban and Mombasa.
