New Durban and Richards Bay harbourmasters named

The National Ports Authority today revealed the name of Durbanís new harbourmaster in succession to Captain Sanjiv Tandon, who has resigned the service in order to return to his home in India.
The new harbourmaster is Captain Mike Brophy, who was harbourmaster at Richards Bay. Capt Brophy has had a long career with the port authority in South Africa, including working with the tugs and as a pilot at several ports. Among the ports in which he served are Port Elizabeth and Mossel Bay and also spent a number of years at Durban and Richards Bay.
He takes up his appointment tomorrow (1 July) but will be attending meetings in Port Elizabeth and Cape Town until later in July.
The NPA also announced that Captain Ravi Naicker, harbourmaster at Saldanha Bay, had been appointed to replace Capt Brophy at Richards Bay. Capt Naicker, who originally comes from KwaZulu Natal, also served his way through the ranks of the harbour service and now returns to his home province.
