Unicorn Tankers takes delivery of latest ship

Durban-based Unicorn Tankers took delivery of its latest ship, the 45,000-dwt Kudu, from the Japanese shipyard yesterday (30 March).

The new products tanker immediately joins Unicorn consorts Eland and a third chartered tanker in the US-based Dorado tanker pool managed by Heidenreich Marine (Heidmar), said Unicorn marine director Robert Young in Durban today.
Kudu was christened by Mrs Rosemary Scheffer, wife of Hugh Scheffer, managing director of Unicorn Tankers (International) Ltd. Conforming with latest legislation, the new vessel features a double hull.
Meanwhile Nyathi, identical sistership to joint venture Southern Tanker's 40,000-dwt Southern Unity delivered earlier this month, is to the christened and launched in South Korea on 9 April by Mrs Jeanne Clark, wife of Grindrod managing director Ivan Clark. Upon delivery in June Nyathi will sail to the Mediterranean where she will be employed by an oil major.
With five further identical ships on order, as well as feeder container ships from China, Unicorn's fleet of modern high-specification tonnage continues its significant expansion.
