SA patrol boat helps Mozambique nab poacher
Mar 13, 2004
The apprehension and arrest of a foreign trawler, believed to be from the
Far East, which was caught operating illegally off Mozambique waters
earlier this week involved the use of the South African training vessel
Eagle Star, which was confiscated by the South African Asset Forfeiture
Unit from Hout Bay Fishing last year.
At the time the SA authorities said that seized vessels would be used for
patrol purposes or sold to raise funds for fishery protection.
The refurbished Eagle Star and crew had been in Mozambique waters for
three days prior to the arrest of the foreign trawler. From scant reports
about the incident the foreign fishing vessel put up some resistance or
hostility at the time of arrest and have been taken into custody.
