Ships in collision in Durban and Cape Town harbours

According to an as yet unconfirmed report a container ship collided with the quayside at Durbanís Island View 8 berth earlier today. The fully laden ship was apparently loading bunkers when the incident occurred. Early indications are that it the damage is not serious and wonít affect the scheduled sailing of the vessel.

In another incident, this time in Cape Town harbour the Safmarine SD14 general cargo vessel Safmarine Congo was also involved in a collision, causing damage to the shipís bows. Now further details are as yet available but reports say the vessel is able to proceed under its own power and will be heading for Durban where repairs will be undertaken.
