John Ross sold and renamed
Jan 29, 2004
The salvage tug John Ross, in its day one of two most powerful tugs built (the other being Wolraad Woltemade), has been sold in a black economic empowerment deal to Smit Dudula Marine, a joint venture between Dutch salvage company Smit Marine and South African company Dudula Shipping.
In the process the tug has been renamed Smit Amandla and btransferred to the South African registry. Smit Amandla will remain on contract duty along the South African coast in terms of the National Marine Pollution Prevention and Response contract.
Full details of this development will be posted on this site on Saturday, 31 January.
