Angola hits illegal Japanese fishing vessel hard in the pocket
Dec 5, 2003
According to Angolan press agency reports this week a Japanese fishing vessel, caught fishing illegally within Angolan waters on 21 November, has been given a USD 4 million fine.
No details were given of the ship’s name or how it was apprehended except that authorities acted on a tip-off from other shipowners. Angola lacks equipment to effectively patrol its fishing waters so the arrest and conviction is notable and a suitable warning to others to stay away.
