Privatisation will benefit Nigeria, says minister
Dec 27, 2003
Nigeria’s minister of transport Dr Abiye Sekibo has denied reports that concessioning of the country’s ports, scheduled for the near future, will create unemployment.
The minister said that concessioning created opportunities that produced more jobs with the system becoming more efficient and effective. He called on workers to band together and form groups that could exploit the opportunities, saying that having limited access to finance shouldn’t prevent workers from utilising their skills to their advantage.
Ongoing reform was aimed at turning Nigerian ports into the hub of both Central and West Africa, he said, and to achieve this port services needed to be improved.
