Unicorn orders fifth tanker from Shina

South Africa’s Unicorn Tankers has confirmed an order with Korean shipyard Shina Shipbuilding for a fifth 37,000-dwt tanker. The, vessel which has been given the provisional name of Hippo, will be delivered in 2007.
Coinciding with this announcement and also with the signing in Durban of the South African Maritime Black Economic Empowerment Charter, the first of the five new tankers, Southern Unity was officially launched and named at a ceremony at the Shina yards on Tuesday.
Southern Unity will enter service with black empowerment company Southern Tankers delivering petroleum products along the Southern African coast.
The names of the other three ships in order of building have also been announced. They are Nyathi, Oliphant and Sable.
