NPA announces plans to widen Durban port entrance

An Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process has started ahead of the widening and deepening of the port entrance channel at the port of Durban. The widening and deepening of the entrance channel is scheduled to begin during 2005.
In terms of the Environment Conservation Act (Act No.73 of 1989) an EIA is required ahead of each and any development in South Africa, and in terms of this the Arcus Gibb (Pty) Ltd has been appointed to undertake the Environmental Impact assessment for this project.
A public meeting will take place at the Ocean Terminal Building at the port of Durban on Wednesday, 17 September 2003, starting at 17.30.
