Container ship in collision
Jul 29, 2003
The container ship ANL Oryx (26,375-dwt), which is a regular caller at South African ports and which trades between Asia, South Africa and West Africa, is reported to have been involved in a collision in Lagos harbour over the past few days, incurring extensive damage on both sides and to the stern.
The ship, which is owned by German interests was hit by another, as yet not identified vessel, causing ANL Oryx to collide with the quay and resulting in a 20m gash in her side plates. Some denting also occurred on the outboard side facing the other ship, as well as damage to the stern.
The identity and damage to the other vessel has not been reported but it is understood that Oryx may be repaired at either Abidjan or Durban.
