Lykes upgrades Africa service
May 22, 2003
Lykes Lines has cut transit times from South Africa to Canada by almost a week, which it says is now the fastest North America - Africa service on the trade.
The transit is only 19 days from Cape Town to Montreal, with fast and efficient onward connections to the Mid-West and the U.S. East Coast.
"This new port rotation helps us ensure even greater schedule integrity and significantly improves our service for African customers shipping to Canada," says Tony Bruno, Senior Vice President. "And transit times from Montreal to the Mid-West are as fast as those from U.S. east coast ports."
The port of Montreal is a major entrepot to the US Mid-West.
Lykes Lines has just been named the Best Carrier to Africa by the Canadian International Freight Forwarders Association (CIFFA), Central Division, for the fourth year in a row.
"Our transit times southbound, from Montreal, New York, Philadelphia and Charleston, to West and South Africa are also among the fastest on the trade," says Mr Bruno. "Just ten days from Charleston to Dakar and 25 days from New York to Cape Town."
The line offers extensive transhipment to and from ports throughout West Africa via relay at Dakar, Senegal. Southern and East Africa are serviced via relay or inland connections to and from Cape Town, Port Elizabeth and Durban.
"Our multipurpose service is particularly attractive to shippers as it can carry everything from containers to bulk, break bulk and Ro-Ro," says Mr Bruno. The service runs once every two weeks.
The revised port rotation is: Montreal, New York, Philadelphia, Charleston, Dakar, Cape Town, Durban, Port Elizabeth, Cape Town, Montreal, Hamilton* (*on inducement, summer months only)
