Safmarine appoints new liner director

Multi-trade carrier Safmarine has appointed Ivan Heesom-Green, currently
Safmarine's Liner Executive for South African-based trades, as its new Liner
Director. Heesom-Green steps into the shoes of Graham Peirce, who retires at
the end of March 2003 after a distinguished career of 16 years with the
Peirce transferred to Safmarine (Pty) Ltd as Liner Director in 1987 after occupying senior management positions with the Rennies Shipping Group, which
included a position as General Manager.
As Liner Director based in Antwerp, Belgium, Ivan Heesom-Green will assume responsibility for the operation of Safmarine's trade routes worldwide. He
will also oversee trade finance, fleet management and operations, multi-purpose vessel services and growth, development and project activities.
Heesom-Green will also be appointed to the business development
committee of Safmarine Container Lines N.V., effective April 1, 2003.
A dual South African/British national, Ivan Heesom-Green joined Safmarine's
Cape Town office in 1990. He held various positions in the company's finance, marine and liner departments. A former Safmarine Group Marine Executive, Heesom-Green assumed responsibility for the Liner Division of Safmarine (Pty) Ltd in 2002.
