Russian aircraft carrier for India

The Indian government has given its long-awaited approval to the purchase of a Russian aircraft carrying vessel, Admiral Gorshkov.

The modified Kiev class VSTOL aviation cruiser Admiral Gorshkov will be refurbished before delivery and according to reports will be delivered to India equipped with Mig-29 jet aircraft. The ship will serve as a replacement for INS Viraat, the former British aircraft carrier HMS Hermes now long overdue for de-commissioning.
