The cost of repairing HMS Trafalgar (S107), the British nuclear powered submarine which ran aground off the Isle of Sky in Scotland in November last year (2002) has been estimated at £ 5 million according to the British government.
The submarine was exercising with Nato and other Royal Navy ships when she ran into rocks while submerged. Two of the 130 crew on board received injuries but there was no reported damage to the nuclear reactor. A survey of the damage has been completed, indicating the damage was restricted mainly to the sonar and ballast tanks sections.
HMS Trafalgar is expected to complete repairs and return to service by early 2004.
