Another cruise company in trouble
Jan 20, 2004
The woes of cruise operators continue! Yesterday (Monday, 19 January) three recently-built ships operated by Italy’s Festival Cruises were placed under arrest in various ports.
The three ships, Mistral (arrested in Marseilles, France), European Vision (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic), and European Stars (Barcelona, Spain), were arrested on behalf of a creditor who is claiming unpaid bonds that expired on 31 December 2003.
The creditor is thought to be the Italian bank S Paolo. Festival owns the older Mistral (built 1999( but charters the other two ships (built 2001 and 2002 respectively) from the shipbuilder Alstom/Chantiers de l’Atlantique.
Passengers on board the European Stars in Barcelona were made to disembark from the ship when the arrest order was made.
